ワインメーカー・ノート
The grand poobah! The 2011 Bedrock Heritage Wine comes from vines planted 123 years ago at my family's vineyard in Sonoma Valley. It is a field-blend of 22 different varieties. Dominated by Zinfandel the remaining 40% of the wine is Carignane, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Syrah, Tempranillo, Trousseau, Mission, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and many others. Bedrock lies in the alluvial wash of the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard and is the only vineyard on the valley floor to share the same Red Hill Clay Loam soils that pour downward from the west slopes of Mount Veeder. The 2011 is dominated by fragrant red fruits, spices, and a dollop of orange oil. Like all the Sonoma Valley offerings from 2011 the wine is nervy and young and will need a few years to loosen its sinewy limbs and limber up.

Designation Highly Recommended
A knockout wine that captures a genuine sense of place and vintage. Rose petal, wild berry and Asian spice aromas open to layered, distinctive flavors of huckleberry pie, licorice and spicy mineral. The tannins are big but ripe, and there's plenty of lively acidity behind it all to keep this rolling. A blend of Zinfandel, Carignane and 21 other field-blended varieties. Best from 2015 through 2022. 500 cases made. –TF

The 2011 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a big wine, yet very much inward in style. Intense, deep, and powerful, the 2011 isn’t showing much today, instead, it is mostly a wine of structure, depth and sheer power. It will be interesting to see where this goes over the coming years. The aromatics and flavors just need more time in bottle to fully blossom. The Bedrock Heritage Wine is a true field blend encompassing 22 varieties, although Zinfandel plays the leading role. The inclusion of stems from the Carignan adds an upper register that is quite appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021.
Morgan Peterson continues to put out a bevy of superb, site-driven wines, many of them focused on the old-vine, heritage sites he and a small cadre of fellow producers have brought back from the brink of extinction. When I taste the Bedrock wines, I often get the impression they will age very well, despite their considerable near-term appeal.

Opaque ruby. A sexy, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, potpourri, patchouli and smoky herbs. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering pliant raspberry and cherry flavors and a hint of candied rose. Finishes with superb clarity and length, leaving floral pastille and raspberry liqueur notes behind
