The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Dalla Valle estate is all about power, density, and verve. The growing season was both mild and intense, with ample sunshine, cool temperatures, and several intense heat events. The vineyards at Dalla Valle soaked it all in, delivering fruit with amazing depth and purity.
The wine is almost impossibly dark, opaque, and packed with aromatic excitement. Cassis, cacao beans, burning sage, and baking spices explode from the glass. There is impressive weight and thickness, and, despite its tannic structure and strength, the wine is very enjoyable as it saturates the palate, even at this early stage in its life. This is a wine that will bring pleasure right now, and will age for many years, probably decades, to come.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon has been utterly majestic each and every time I have tasted it over the last six months. A towering, statuesque wine, the 2010 exudes tremendous power, richness and pure structure. Sweet spices, violets and graphite jump from the glass, followed by smoke-infused black cherries, plums and cassis. The 2010 is quite a bit darker and more virile than the 2009. Its hallmarks are energy, focus and breathtaking balance. A huge, mineral-drenched finish rounds things out in style. This is one of the great wines of a great year. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.

The brilliant 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly richer, revealing more smokiness, graphite and creme de cassis notes as well as a dense purple color, a big, masculine, tannic mouthfeel and a full-bodied, rich finish. This majestic Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 25-30 years. It possesses slightly more sucrosity and flesh than the 2009, but both of these are brilliant examples of hillside Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc.
Following a significant replanting, Dalle Valle appears to have come back with an impressive group of wines. The proprietary red wine named after proprietress Naoko Dalla Valle’s daughter, Maya, used to be blended with 50-55% Cabernet Franc, but it is only about one-third of the blend over recent vintages.. One of the original cult wines of California, this brilliant wine has had enormous success since the mid- and late 1980s. The 2012s are typical for the vintage with lots of fruit, body and precocious, seductive personalities.
